Why We Built This Reference
Printed directories faded, but the records behind them remain. DuPage County maintains the parcel cards and recorded instruments. Election information is governed by Illinois law and cannot be treated as an open resident roster. West Chicago Public Library, nearby reference collections, the Illinois State Archives, and the City Museum preserve different parts of local history. We organize official search links, office contacts, coverage dates, and access limits into one West Chicago reference.
What Is Available
- Different search angles: records by street, historical city directories, and a one-person lookup
- Responsible office routes: the DuPage Recorder, property lookup, elections office, court clerk, vital-record custodians, and local-history collections
- Practical methods: matching an address to a parcel, reading a directory entry, and following a dated household trail
- Access boundaries: what Illinois law permits, what remains restricted, and where to send an Illinois Freedom of Information Act request
